Why we use words

Using words is how we express, ideas, thoughts, emotions, theories, we use words to shape, define, illumine, explain our world, our communities, our ideas, ourselves. Words written have a different affect than those spoken. Written words are precise and clear as to what they are as an individual entity. The complexity, the chaos, the confusion is in how we put those words together. Words form our world, shape values, create communities and have power. As Tina Weymouth and Chris Franz said, “Concrete words, abstract words, Crazy words and lying words, Hazy words and dying words, Words of faith and tell me straight, Rare words and swear words, Good words and bad words” Writing is an expression of self, an expression of what we are and how we see the world we call home.
